Santana Decision to Come Today

Buster Olney say that the Twins decision on what to do with Santana could come as early as today. The Yankees might be even more desperate with Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite being executed, so some are speculating Steinbrenner might cave on his hard stance of not including Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy.

But if history has taught us anything it is to believe the hype that things will get done in a timely fashion when it comes to Santana. I feel so confident, on behalf of Alright Hamilton I want to welcome Phil and Ian to the Minne...

Oh, wait. I didn't read the last sentence of the ESPN article. "The Yankees appear to be not presently engaged whatsoever in the Santana talks." Oh, so that first 2 paragraphs were just pure speculation?

I guess there is nothing new to report. This is getting annoying.

To read more about the talks check out the latest Santana info at MLB Trade Rumors.

UPDATE: SANTANA TO METS ACCORDING TO ESPN.
If anyone knows anything about these prospects please inform me.

people are going to be unhappy about this one for a long time (until carlos gomez is a star (a long time))

I don't think that our administration understands the fact that they can't replace a Cy Young hopeful with some bum pert near rookie that has already had a 60 day stint on the DL, and a bunch of average Joes.

I hate rebuilding.

Buster Oleny(ESPN)put it rather well. "It was like watching a terrible episode of "Deal or no Deal"." We had offers that were pretty worthwhile, but got greedy, and let three or four million cases slip through our fingers.

slow down. take a breath. we're fine.

Gomez has big time tools and he's still a baby (22 I think). His numbers arn't great, but most scouts really like this guy (and they know more than I do).

Guerra projects to be an ace. He has a mid 90s fast ball at 18 years old with an even better change up. think, that's like a high school senior with those tools. the mph on the fast ball will certainly increase and he has time to develop a third pitch. He'll be a better mlb pitcher than lester.

The other two are #4 or #5 type starters (which we seem to have a lot of right now).

I don't know much about baseball negotiating, but I have to wonder how serious the yanks and sox were with their offers. i guess i wonder because what changed between now and three weeks ago? Did they suddenly realize that lester, ellbury, and hughes are really good? I think they felt they needed to test the water because they are the sox and the yanks.

And the best news: JOHAN IS IN THE NL!!!

how pissed are webb, peavy, hammels, ect right now? At least they won't have to buy bigger trophy cases.

I also have to give the twins org the benefit of the doubt on trades. they have a very good tack record.

valid points soup.

I just have a hard time with the fact that those other offers were on the table a little over a month ago and failure to pull the trigger on them left us with no immediate help. I hate to give up on 08-09' because I think there is enough talent there right now to win some games if we could have gotten some help through this deal, but I feel like this was a deal executed under the notion that we want to be competative by 2010 when Dairy Queen/3M Field opens.

We still dont have a centerfielder or longterm solutions at 2B, SS and 3B and we didnt solve any of those issues with this trade. Call me old school but I think if your giving up the best pitcher in baseball you should atleast be able to aquire a couple players who provide answers in return.

All we are left with now is more questions.

word soup. we will wait and see. I'd just like to be able to say I'm genuinly excited for the new guys. I can't be excited while sporting a 'wait and see' attitude.

the question for the 08 season is: Will gomez start in CF this year?

who's our ace? whats our rotation for that matter?

Liriano
Baker
Boof
Slowey

Perkins? Blackburn?

rebuilding does kind of suck, but there are a couple of becons of hope in our situation. first i don't think this team is worse than last year's team. so, it's not like timberwolves rebuilding. secondly, i will take this "rebuilding" team over a team with a ponson or ortiz to make a "competitive" team.

I think the rotation will be:

liriano
baker
boof
slowey
humber

Liriano might not be ready on opening day...then i think blackburn will be in 5 and everyone else moves up. perkins will be in the pen no matter what i think.

Now all we need to do is trade Nathan for a top prospect and we're gonna be awesome for the inaugural season at the new park. Twins in '10 baby.
