My quest.

My quest began, like most do, with a lust for fame and fortune. My map was nothing but a list of cryptic clues meant to lead the one who was worthy to the land of prosperity. I knew many had gone this way before, but I was not about to let that stop me. I was young, strong and dedicated.

The first clue, led me east. Away from the mighty coliseum, where gladiators fight their epic battles. And the Vikings lose.

The second clue forced me to abandon my carriage and walk south, towards the wastelands known as "Iowa."

The third clue intrigues me with its mention of gold, but confounds me with its remarks of a second city.

The fourth clue tries to get me to abandon my quest by tempting me with food. Oh how hungry I am, I have been searching for days.

The fifth clue talks of luck and magic, what luck and magic I ask? I have been searching many hours and have received no rewards!

I musn't give up hope. The one ticket to rule them all wants to found...

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about my obsession with finding the Twins golden ticket. Over the past few days I have put in about 15 hours in the field; walking and searching and another 8 doing research on-line. Its a pretty fun time. When people see me, they must think I'm a real bum. Wandering around with ratty clothes, smoking cigarettes, every once in a while stopping abruptly to look at garbage. Sometimes I even talk to myself.

If you don't know what it is, somewhere on public property in Hennepin or Ramsey county the Twins and the Star-Tribune have hidden a "Golden Ticket" and everyday another clue comes out as to where it is. If you find it, they give you a bunch of crap. And you get to throw out the first pitch at a twins game! I thinking about going with my slider, what do you guys think?

Its a really fun activity to get people out of the house, and you don't have to get as serious as I do. Yesterday I walked around 8 miles, give or take a few hundred yards. Last year me and Haas spent 3 hours turning over every rock in a park in Roseville, we didn't find it. If you are going to tackle a project like this, its best to have a partner. It makes the time go faster and its safer. Before Holm joined me yesterday afternoon, I almost broke my leg twice yesterday climbing things I wasn't supposed to climb.

Here are the clues so far:
Starting from the teflon roof, heading west would be a goof.

Get out and search and use those legs, but to the north there's just goose eggs

Further south of the second City the golden ticket shines so pretty
If you like your breakfast food, this path will get you in the mood

It still could bring you luck today, should you decided to go this way

Everyone I've talked to is convinced they know where it is. But, no one is convinced its in the same place. So far all I have to show for my hours of suffering and hard work are some blisters and soar muscles. And many hours of beautiful scenery. I saw over 25 deer yesterday, in Minneapolis! I had never seen one before that.

I'm stumped, I thought the second city was Chicago, so no where in MN is south of that.
There aren't any parks off Kellogg road.
Popular wisdom (the internet) suggests that Battle Creek park is number one in the running right now.
I must have been way off the past couple days, I didn't see a single person except for people walking their dogs.

But, I disagree all the clues point me to one park, Sechler Park, think about it, its east of the dome, south of both citys, its right next to the Malt-o-Meal cereal factory, where they make knock off lucky charms. Where else could it be?

There is a park that runs along the river side of Kellogg. I like to take naps there after work.

Battle Creek is a winter medallion early clue favorite; it's so big that almost any clue will somehow make sense, until later in the hunt when things become a little more obvious. Given that, and how the last two winter medallions were found in that neighborhood (I know it's a different paper, but I'm sure the STrib folks read the P.P. and vice versa), I have an inkling it will be somewhere else. But then again, what do I know? I've yet to find anything.

I think they are just using an old winter medallion clues. Since the Trib is bankrupt, how can they afford to hire someone clever enough come up with these silly clues?

The golden ticket is like the powerball. I know I'm not going to win so i dont even bother trying

sechler park is in northfield which is way too far south of the hennepin and ramsey county boundries

I don;t know, I think it's probably in sechlar park. It just makes sense.

Thanks for being a downer bizmarkie, Its not the destination, it's the journey. The thrill of the hunt. Put yourself out there, and uou might just learn a little something about the minneapolis area, and yourself ;)

it does need to be within hennepin or ramsey proper

I absolutely love it. I hope you guys find it.

Friday's clue refers to Lily and Dale. Lilydale. This puts the ticket somewhere between Harriet Island and Lilydale. There is lots of paths and trees (thus parks?) along this area. As it refers to breakfast, I don't know. Kellogg Ave doesn't necessarily take you to this area. The clue that doesn't make sense to me is from Thursday "it still could bring you luck today, should you decide to go this way." Huh? A reference to St. Patty's Day? A pot of gold? No idea. I'm outta town this weekend so someone has to find it and then say that my post help you find it so I can feel like I had some part of finding it. Good luck.

we shall hunt in the name of anonymous. thanks for your insight. Lilydale is mostly in Dakota county, so I'm stumped. Just have to get out there. Luckily myself and some associates have no societal obligations all day! We're headed to Sechler Park!

I still think its in sechler
park.

my friend went to battle creek park, and he said that someone left like 500 mn twins lottery tickets all over he park, obviously whoever did it is trying to throw us all off, has anyone looked at battle creek park yet??
and wheres sechler park?? i can't find it on google maps

sechler park is in northfield, behind the MaltoMeal plant. But it's not in hennepin or ramsey county, so I'm not sure if they'd put it there. But it makes sense.

I can't tell if todays clue means it's near lilydale or it's not near lilydale.

Anonymous said...

me neither, sechler park makes sense, i'll probably go check there. it must be near lilydale, b/c not near it, the ticket could be anywhere!

Anonymous said...

why would you search where the rules say i can't be?....i think you're kinda crazy....hwy 13 is an easy reference for something "still"being lucky....anyways good luck in northfield

Anonymous said...

oh yeah, duh!!! it can't be there. i'll go to lilydale park i guess. maybe i'll strike gold :)

was just a lilydale park in st paul for 3 hours, found nothing, but saw a bunch of other lookers

Look at today's clue a little closer. Lily without Dale. I don't think it is at Lilydale. Where's the breakfast food reference? Battle Creek still makes the most sense for me.

Also click my name for more discussion.

from the bluff of hiking path in lilydale park, you can see kellog blvd, does that mean anthing?? and how did you get lily without dale?

haasertime said...

Yeah I know what you're sayin Free. About how Dale's folks don't agree with Ms Tomlins. So yes Lily but no Dale. Anyway, tomorrow's clue should narrow it down.

Freealonzo said...

Today's clue is a head scratcher too! Lyle Lovett's biggest hit was Cowboy Man. How does that help?

Anonymous said...

what is today's clue?

haasertime said...

Here's a way you can't go wrong, think of Lyle Lovett's greatest song

I've never listened to anything Lyle Lovett. Why couldn't they have said Toto's greatest song or BizMarkie's greatest song? frustrating!

Anonymous said...

was just at lilydale for 5 hours. FOUND NOTHING

Anonymous said...

yeah, I've given up. I'll be writing a letter of complaint to the Star Tribune. Did anyone check Sechler Park?

Anonymous said...

it HAS to be some near lilydale, it's the only thing that makes sense. every single rock in lilydale park has been turned over at least 5 times

Freealonzo said...

I am not surprise no one has found it at Lilydale because yesterday's clue specifically said it wasn't Lilydale! Also most people were looking in the Dakota County part of Lilydale to boot.

I still think somewhere off of Kellogg or Battle Creek is the way to go.

It's just bizarre that they would use the fifth clue to eliminate a park and not hone in on the right one.

Anonymous said...

i totally agree. it would be stupid of them to say someplace it isn't on the 5th day, it's pointless. unless they don't want anyone to find it. grrr this makes me mad. hopefully tomorrows clue gives it all up!

haasertime said...

i think they wrongly assumed that everyone knows the park now. Tomorrow's clue will probably just say, 'look in the trees' or 'look under a rock'

Let's go over the lilydale debate...

the clue reads:
ms tomlins parents liked the names
chips buddys folks not the same

First part: Lily
Dales parents did NOT like the same. They didn't like Lily.. or is it saying that its Lily but NOT dale. I think it could go either way. Especially since Luck and Breakfast and Lovett clues offered zero help.

Anonymous said...

then it has to be at that battle creek park, right?!?!?

Freealonzo said...

Battle Creek has to be it. Lilydale and Harriet Island have been scoured and the boat launch isn't even in Ramsey County. Battle Creek fits the 1st 4 clues the best.

Is there something related to a boat or cowboys near battle creek? Saddle, Rodeo, Steer, lasso? How about a Dallas Cowboy? Marian Barber? Troy Aikman? Emmitt Smith, Tom Landry?

Things that are lucky: rabbits foot, 4 leaf clover, #7, horseshoe. (personally, those people who think the "lucky" clue points to Lucky's Bar in Mendota are whack!

What does it mean?!?@!

tfrezac2002 said...

I still think its in Sechler park.

Anonymous said...

it's not possoble to be in sechler park, your in the wrong county!!

j-han said...

Lily Tomlin's real name is Mary, what if Lovett's greatest hit was Julia ROBERTS... anything on robert street? Chip is a nickname for Charles...

Does this help at all?

what about Sechlar Park?

Was it in Sechler park?
